Dr. McCutcheon was a police officer for 21 years before becoming an Associate Professor at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts. Dr. McCutcheon has served as a detective, sergeant, and detective sergeant. Dr. McCutcheon formed the national training company Forensic Education, which trains police officers in various areas of crime scene processing, body language, statement analysis, and emotional intelligence.

After twenty years of investigations and earning a doctoral degree studying emotional intelligence, Dr. McCutcheon has become an expert in interviewing and detecting deception using emotional intelligence, body language interpretation, and statement analysis. Dr. McCutcheon created a program used by police officers, attorneys, sales workforce, teachers, and others to learn how to read people through body language and emotional intelligence to increase productivity, reduce burnout and detect deception.

Dr. McCutcheon is the curriculum coordinator for the Fitchburg State University Police Academy and an associate professor at Fitchburg State University. He is the president of the New England Division of International Association for Identification (NEDIAI). Dr. McCutcheon also works with Dr. Laura Pettler & Associates in Monroe, NC investigating unsolved crimes. He has been a frequent guest on Court TV as a body language expert, and provided expertise analysis to The Guardian and The Daily Mail.

Dr. McCutcheon earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College and a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice Administration from Western New England University. He earned his Doctorate in Education at Rivier University in Nashua, NH. His doctoral research explored the relationship between emotional intelligence and stress experienced by police officers. He uses his research to encourage police departments to provide emotional intelligence training to their officers to protect them from harmful psychological damages resulting from exposure to prolonged stress.
